“I told you so” letter

I once knew
a guy who tried
to see everything the way
that I do, like how the
shape of the dent
in the cement ground looks
like the shape
of a heart,
I once knew a guy who tried
to feel everything the way
that I do, like how the
flickering stars
in the night sky are
more than just gases,
for it’s a blanket of
wish-granting factories.
i once knew
a guy who cared more
about making my
happiness his own
than what I wanted.
I once knew
a guy who was a realist,
he turned into a dreamer
when he met me,
I could tell, because
he kept taking wild chances
to try and hold my heart
even though I had told him
more than on one occasion
there was zero
chance.
It was too late when he
understood that
he caught himself
in a losing game by
gambling with my
independence.
